Another accident at Belleview and Franklin in Cherry Hills Village

On Tuesday, August 11, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a driver attempted to turn left from southbound Franklin Street in Cherry Hills Village to go east on Belleview Avenue. As the turning driver got ready to pull out, a driver in one of the westbound lanes of Belleview gestured for the turning vehicle to proceed. As it did that, a collision occurred between the turning driver and a vehicle traveling in the adjacent westbound lane.
No serious injuries were sustained, although one of the drivers involved in the accident complained of minor pain.
The intersection of Belleview Avenue and Franklin Street, which is in Cherry Hills Village on the north side and Greenwood Village on the south side, was the location of two fatal car accidents that ended the lives of Andie Goldberg and her husband, Gerry Goldberg. Andie was killed crossing Belleview on foot at Franklin Street in May 2024. Gerry was killed in March 2026 while driving his car when he pulled into the intersection from the south side of Franklin and attempted to turn left.
After Andie’s death, friends and neighbors, along with Gerry Goldberg and former Greenwood Village City Council Member Jerry Presley, began pressing Greenwood Village to act to get a traffic signal installed. They enlisted support from residents of both cities and took petitions to Cherry Hills Village. Discussion between the two city councils, and residents with different opinions on what should be done, was still ongoing in March 2026 when Gerry Goldberg lost his life at the same intersection.
The paper wrote that there are only two ways an answer will emerge: either the two cities must agree on what should be done, including being willing to split whatever cost is associated with the action, or the Colorado Department of Transportation needs to come up with an answer that both cities will accept. CDOT is currently working toward that goal.
“What is also clear is that a traffic signal at the intersection of Belleview Avenue and Franklin Street would have prevented the accident that occurred on August 11, unless someone ran a red light.”
Late update: There was another accident at Belleview & Franklin on August 17 at 5:32 p.m. involving two vehicles, one of which had to be towed. Greenwood Village police responded. Neither driver was transported to the hospital. GVPD issued one of the drivers a citation for careless driving. No other information was available at press time.
